Smucker Urges Riders to Participate in Motorcycle Safety Awareness ProgramsSenator Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster and York) is urging new motorcyclists and experienced riders who wish to polish their skills to participate in free motorcycle safety courses in Pennsylvania. “Motorcycle safety courses can help riders of all experience levels avoid many of the dangers they face on the highways,” Smucker said. “A large number of local residents enjoy the opportunity to ride during the summer months, and I am hopeful that all riders can enjoy this activity safely.” According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), motorcyclists with a PA Class M (motorcycle) permit or license can participate in courses from spring through fall at 70 sites across the state. Riders can sign up for the Basic Rider Course (BRC) or Experienced Rider Course (ERC) to hone motorcycle skills. The statewide program is funded by PennDOT and administered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The Motorcycle Safety Program website provides related facts, laws, regulations, and more. Additional information is available through PennDOT’s Motorcycle Information Center.
