Senator Smucker and Secretary Hall Visit Albright LIFE in Lancaster
New to Lancaster County, Albright LIFE (Living Independently For Elders),
opened its doors in November of 2008. Senator Smucker, Department of Aging
Secretary John Michael Hall, Cindy Proper, Director, Division of Direct
Integrated Care, Seneca Foote, President and CEO of Albright Care Services and
staff of Albright LIFE toured the new facility.
The LIFE program is an alternative to nursing home care that provides
participants with the care they require but allow them to live at home. Located
at 417 W. Frederick Street Lancaster, Albright LIFE offers an array of services
including medical, therapeutic, social and recreational activities, Adult Day
Center, transportation and in home care to eligible seniors providing them with
an option as they age at home.
Albright is a faith based, non profit provider in this national program. The
program is funded by Medicaid, Medicare and other private pay options.
The tour provided an overview of this new and unique alternative to long term
care placement for Lancaster County Seniors. Participants shared personal
stories showing the impact the LIFE program has on their lives as well as for
families caring for aging loved ones.
In an interesting twist of fate, William Clark, a LIFE participant recently
met Senator Smucker while a resident of a long term care facility. He shared
that after spending a year away from his home and family, he was able to move
into a new apartment with the support of the Office of Aging Nursing Home
Transition program and Albright LIFE services.
