EITC Program
In making the transition from private citizen to state
legislator, I am hearing every day about the serious problems caused by budget
deficits and economic woes. So it sure is nice to be part of an event on the
positive side of life.
By all accounts, the EITC is one state government program
that is popular and that works as intended. Whenever the subject comes up,
there is always a sense of excitement about it.
No mystery why that is. The EITC promotes student
achievement, encourages parental involvement, and offers businesses and
institutions a direct and meaningful way to contribute to educational
improvement.
The advantages are clear:
- When students attend a school of their liking, that helps
improve attendance and achievement.
- When parents have a real choice about where to send their
kids, they are more likely to be constructively involved in the learning
process.
- When businesses shop for an avenue to boost education,
they have a say in where their money goes and are able to see the result.
Finally, we can take pride in having two good local schools
involved. Each features strong academic and value-oriented programs. Each has
a demonstrated commitment to building a base for student learning and character
development. Each has a foundation in faith that makes a difference in young
lives.
This is a collaboration that works well for the kids and
for our community.
The Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program
establishes an innovative relationship among businesses, families and schools.
The EITC offers companies a 75 percent tax credit for contributions made to
approved scholarship and educational organizations. If a company pledges to
contribute for two consecutive years, it receives a 90 percent tax credit for
contributions up to $200,000 a year.
