April 30, 2009 - Senator Smucker held a "town hall" meeting with
residents of Brethren Village Retirement Community and also took the opportunity
to tour the campus. Gary Clouser, Executive Director, hosted and provided a very
informative tour of this great community for seniors. Residents in attendance
heard the Senator speak about his experience so far as a new state Senator and
had the opportunity to ask questions. Brethren Village offers a mix of
residential living options for those 62 years of age and older with a broad

April 17, 2009 – Solanco School District officials, teachers and
students hosted a visit and tour with Senator Smucker. The Senator was able to
see and hear firsthand the extraordinary work of everyone in the district. Dr.
Hudacs, Superintendent, guided the tour which included stops at Solanco High
School, Swift Middle School, Clermont and Bart-Colerain Elementary Schools.
Highlights of the visit included a presentation on the districts anti-bullying
program "PRIDE" which is a student led program to empower them to thwart
bullying; the Virtual Academy that provides a unique on-line learning
experience; Kid Connect activities where Clermont first-graders and their
teachers meet and present to local pre-school students and their teachers to
improve transition for students into kindergarten and finally a tour of the
district's National NCLB blue ribbon school, Bart-Colerain Elementary, and its
geothermal energy system.

Ambassador Ware toured the Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA which is
nearing final completion. Senator Smucker and Jeff Kenderdine, CEO of the
Lancaster Family YMCA, hosted the tour to give the Ambassador a first-hand look
at the region's newest community facility. The Senator was pleased to help in
the effort to bring this great facility to the community by serving as Chair of
the L-S YMCA Building Campaign Committee and as a West Lampeter Township
Supervisor. A joint project between West Lampeter Township, Strasburg Township,
Strasburg Borough, the L-S School District and the YMCA, the new facility is
scheduled to open Saturday, May 23rd. For more information check out

April 27, 2009 - Senator Smucker with Reverend David Peck, of
St. James Episcopal Church, who served as Senate Chaplain and offered the
opening prayer.

April 26, 2009 – Senator Smucker presented citations to the
coaches and players congratulating the Penn Manor Field Hockey team on their
capture of the PIAA-AAA state title last November. The team also received
championship rings which were presented by various community sponsors.

April 18, 2009 - Senator Smucker celebrated with Manheim
Township community members the groundbreaking for the Township's new public
library. The Senator congratulated the Township in making a wise investment in
the preservation of its past and in the hope of its future and commented that
the new library will be a center of community knowledge, of community learning,
and community activity. The library is to be located in the Overlook Community
Campus.

April 16, 2009 - Senator Smucker toured the Lancaster Academy.
The Academy, opened in November 1993, is a unique alternative public school
located in the Park City Center mall in Lancaster. It is a business and
education partnership formed by participating Lancaster County school districts,
the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit, and General Growth, Inc., with PA
Department of Education approval. During the visit, the Senator spoke with Diane
Tyson, Program Director, regarding the Academy's operation and curriculum. He
also was able to see students working on a community project, stitching beetle
bags.

The Senator recently toured the Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA)
main offices and operations center. Seen here in the dispatch center, the
Senator is speaking with David Kilmer, Authority Executive Director, regarding
the Authority's operations. The two also discussed future plans for the
Authority with regard to the Queen Street Station and renovation plans for the
main offices and operations center.
